Our vision is to become a rural enclave for the literary arts
and to support writing opportunities for students in our Appalachian area.
July, 2020 - Our first live meeting since February. We were COVID-careful!
We are an independent group of creative writers and poets who meet monthly to develop our writing craft. We work in the community to encourage creative writing and critical thinking and promote reading as a pastime.
Our outreach in county schools is designed to fit specific needs as identified by teachers and administrators. As a result, our programs for Alleghany Schools align with and directly address the Workforce Development segment of the Alleghany County 5-Year Economic Plan.
In the area of arts-driven economic development, our visiting author events add a literary presence to the downtown arts scene and promote Alleghany County as a rural enclave for writers and other artists in our corner of Appalachia.
When we express our thoughts and ideas through writing, we better understand ourselves and our place in the world. The more people write, the more people read. The more people discuss, the more a community develops into a unique place to live, work, and grow.
Camaraderie, Workshops, Support, with shared stories of romance, adversity, intrigue, history, folk tales, biographies...all of this and more available right here in Sparta, with the creative Alleghany Writers group!
